The Japanese Formula to Happiness
Have you ever heard of the word 'Ikigai'? Ikigai is two words. 'Iki' meaning life, and 'Gai' meaning purpose so, Ikigai means life's purpose or the purpose of life.
We can relate Ikigai to our Job and our Work. Job is something you do in the usual form of employment to earn money. Work is something you do to achieve a result or gain something meaningful out of it.
With Ikigai, you can find your purpose in life and achieve happiness. You can do so by finding something you love, something you're good at, something that can make a difference, and something that can pay you well.
Let's go by each point one by one:
Something You Love
Loving is a feeling when you're living in the present and enjoying your time. Doing what you love helps you stay happy and not suffer from stress or anxiety.
Something You're Good At
Doing something you're good at does not mean that you need to be born with talent. It only means that you're ready to put your time and effort and want to get better.
Something the World Needs
Doing something the world needs is so that you can make a change in the world. Nowadays, most people are working in offices thinking what's the point of their jobs, if there are already a million people like them. Well, this is your answer. Try to understand how you're making a difference in the world.
Something that Pays Well
Here, you may say that money can't bring us happiness. But, you need to understand that money is something that brings shelter over your head and food on your plate. We need money, and that's why it can bring you happiness.
Now, you know the basic pointers. I can tell you how you can grow and bring changes into your lifestyle to find you Ikigai.
If you have something that you love and you're good at then, you have a Passion. You need to figure out a source to get paid well for this.
If you have something that you love and something that the world needs, you have a Mission. Here, focus on getting better and practicing daily.
If you have something you're good at and something that pays well, you have a Profession. Most people have this. You can try new things and explore. Because here you don't know the reason why you're doing it. It neither makes you happy nor makes a difference in the world.
If you have something that the world needs and pays well, you have a Vocation. You have something great but, you need to challenge yourself and get better at the job instead of repeating it every time.
A study proves that money, job, good looks, or a big house do not impact the base level of happiness. But, kindness, meditation, time affluence (doing what you want to do), and spending time with family can have a direct impact on your happiness.
Finding your Ikigai needs work, and you're worth it.
Your meaning for life is not the destination. It's something you can enjoy right now or any time you want.
I researched Ikigai to find my purpose in life, to find my reason for being. I want you to enjoy this pleasure too, so keep exploring and go find your Ikigai.
